Here it is folks!

My first real review and it’s in FANGORIA! My story THe Police Station published in the anthology from Bear Mannor Media TWICE THE TERROR: THE HORROR ZINE was one of the stories they liked in this review! It’s a goodie!

Here:
“The Police Station” by Bruce Memblatt is absorbing in its structure and sense of anticipation. What starts out like a police procedural, as two detectives interrogate a murder suspect, unexpectedly takes a creative twist into the supernatural.

Reveiw?

This is from a review of the anthology Twice The Terror: The Horror Zine. An odd one because the critic really doesn’t form an opinion, but I suppose it’s better than a bad one. Anyway, my first review.

The next story is Bruce Memblatt’s The Police Station and it’s a strange one folks. The central character is a man named Michael Reardon. He does not know how he got there, but he is being interrogated at a police station unlike any he has ever seen. The two guys who are playing good cop bad cop with him are a little strange as well, but as they fire their questions at him Michael’s memory begins to return and he finally remembers the events that landed him in his present predicament.

The central character in Geoff Nelder’s In Abstentia, is also a little confused. Like Michael he does not know where he is or how he got there, but he also has a further problem—he…

At Arm’s Reach

I just had the fastest acceptance of my brief writing career. Less than an hour after I submitted it I got the good word. A story called “At Arm’s Reach.” will be published in the forthcoming anthology book from Static Movement titled “Dusted.” This is a horror comedy piece about a rough and tumble Archie Bunker type of cop and his new, not only female, but Russian partner and the case of a killer hand.

Here is a draft of the book jacket.

The Children’s Room

I sold a story called The Children’s Room to Whortleberry Press for their Halloween Anthology. They don’t pay much but it will be published in a book. This is actually a story I rewrote, it’s about a child ghost, a girl named Meryl. I picked a child ghost because not having matured I thought she’d make a particularly dangerous sort of ghost.

I’m having a story called A Cut Above the Rest published in Bewlidering Stories. It’s funny because I sent the story to them so long ago, I’d forgotten I’d sent it to them. But I heard from them out of the blue at the end of last week. So that is good news.

We’re having the greatest week weahter-wise here in NYC. Low 70s and sunny. Picture perfect, and nice and cool at night, so you don’t even need the AC. It could stay like this all sumner long and I’d be a happy camper!

One of the funniest submission calls I’ve ever read

For this anthology, we would like to see stories involving demons and demonic possession. As this is a horror collection, please don’t send any stories about demons being depressed, falling in love with the local high school outcast, or trying to come to terms with their humanity (face it…they have none! They’re DEMONS!). We’re looking for stories that will mutilate our souls and have us screaming “Unclean! Unclean!” in the shower. We want to be horrified. We want you to make us puke. We want to have a sit down with your parents and ask them how they managed to birth such a twisted little monster.

Goodbye Annie

Imagine an 86 year run? Farewell, Annie.
Just between you and me I didn’t know papers still carried little Annie.

The sun will come out tomorrow — but there won’t be many more tomorrows for “Little Orphan Annie.”

Daddy Warbucks’s favorite pupil-less redhead had enough Depression-tested pluck to survive 86 years in daily newspapers, but now the orphan’s outta luck. Come June 13, her clear-eyed comic strip will end as her syndicate, Tribune Media Services, sends her off into the sunset. Canceled.

Press Release for TwiceThe Terror

The Horror Zine has burst onto computers all over the world as an ezine. “Twice the Terror” brings you the very best from The Horror Zine as a book. The Horror Zine presents its second in-print anthology, a wicked brew of stories with relentless suspense that ride side-by-side with haunting poetry and eye-popping artwork. Volume 2 from The Horror Zine unveils a fresh approach to basic fears and has twisted, unexpected endings.

“Twice the Terror: THE HORROR ZINE” contains contributions from such famous writers such as Graham Masterton, Bentley Little, Joe R. Lansdale, Deborah LeBlanc, Ed Gorman, Stephen Gallagher, Terence Faherty, and Hugh Fox. But it also contains deliciously dark delights from morbidly creative people who have not yet made the big time…but they will soon.

National Library Week

Well, it’s been an interesting week in New York we had the car bomb scare and the Tony nominations and it isn’t even Wednesday. Lord knows what the rest of the week will bring. I don’t know about you guys but I am staying indoors. My first instincts are always to hide. When it comes to flight or flee I am a fleeer (is that a word? ) I want to remind you all it’s National Library week. I know you people haven’t seen the inside of a library since you were drinking Mad Dog in the back seat of Randy’s 1979 Impala, but stop by this week. Be a library enthusiast.

The Feathertale Review(6)
today. It will be in book stores in october. I have a humor piece published in this issue called “The Lottery Machine Engagement.” This is a print magazine and I’m tickled pink to have a story appear in The Feathertale Review. They paid me for it and everything. If you click on the link below you can see a PDF of the first page of the story.
